Industry and Commerce

Tourism continues to be a major source of employment in Blackpool – and statistics confirm the importance and value of tourism to the local economy.

However, it has much to offer other business sectors too, and has an excellent and attractive infrastructure to support the growth of business.

The M55 connects Blackpool with the national motorway network, and good rail links are complemented by the rapid expansion of Blackpool International Airport, with growing connections to the rest of the UK, Ireland, and the Continent.

Blackpool has a range of thriving businesses across a variety of sectors, many of them located on modern business and technology Parks.

Add to this an excellent skills, training and business support infrastructure with plentiful opportunities for business networking and Blackpool soon becomes a location of choice for many thriving businesses.

There are excellent examples of well-established manufacturing companies within the town.

Companies such as Booths Dispensers Ltd, Burton’s Foods, Gilberts, Glasdon UK, Gledhill Building Products, Huddleston Engineering, Laila’s Foods, Warburton’s and Tangerine Confectionery to name but a few.

Industry within the town is concentrated on a number of sites:

  • Blackpool-Fylde Industrial Estate (just south of the M55)
  • Metropolitan Business Park (off the A583)
  • Clifton Road Trading Estate (adjoining the M55)
  • Fox’s Industrial Estate (Holyoake Avenue)
  • Moor Park/Bristol Avenue Trading Estate
  • Blackpool Business Park (adjacent to the airport)
  • Mowbray Drive Industrial Estate
  • Squires Gate Industrial Estate (adjacent to the airport)

Blackpool Business Park to the south of the town is also home to a number of leading commercial companies including the headquarters of AI Claims and The Gazette publishing company, as well as local offices for the Chamber Of Commerce and the National Federation of Small Businesses.

The Technology Park offers high-quality office accommodation to the north of the town.
