The HERO Enterprise Project

The development of an enterprise culture among Blackpool’s young people is critical to the town’s future regeneration.

That’s why a heavy emphasis is being put on enterprise activities in the classroom.

HERO is a three-year project focusing on the development of enterprise education across 14-19-year-olds in Blackpool.

Representing an investment of just over £1m over three years, the programme aims to develop confident, ambitious and aspirational young people who are much better prepared for life beyond schools.

Key features of the project include;

  • Bringing enterprise skills into all of the town’s high schools and colleges through work schemes and lesson plans
  • Building relationships with employers and establishing strong education and business partnerships.
  • Improving employment skills in line with the needs of Blackpool employers
  • Encouraging more young entrepreneurs and business start-ups

The project targets all Year 9 and 10 pupils in eight Blackpool high schools and three special schools – a total of approximately 1600 pupils. Blackpool & Fylde College and the Sixth Form will also benefit directly from this programme.

In addition, all secondary school teachers will participate in enterprise-related professional development, and parental involvement will be sought throughout the project.

The programme will be delivered through the HERO Enterprise Development Team, hosted by Beacon Hill High Business and Enterprise College in association with key partners including Connexions, Prince’s Trust, BITC, Young Enterprise, NFTE and Blackpool & Fylde College.
